new best friend

Hello, can you believe that it's almost Easter?! I haven't bought a guitar yet but a friend has been kind enough to lend me the first guitar he saved his paper round money up for 36 years ago! I'm terrified of damaging it as it has a lot of sentimental value. In the 7 days it's been in my possession I've quickly made friends with it and have learned enough chords to be able to play raspberry beret by prince (apart from the bridge - need a few more for that bit). So I have my second lesson tonight and I'm really looking forward to it. I can see how this could easily become an obsession with guitar tabs for lots of songs being widely available on the web. It's great fun trying to play and sing along. I think I'm driving Mr P round the bend a bit! As for my fingers, they are completely numb on the ends! And my fingerprints have gone!!! I can now commit the perfect crime with my left hand!!! I've had a few blisters but it's not as bad as I thought it might be. You know what they say... no pain, no gain!!

We have the long weekend to look forward to this week with the Friday and Monday bank holidays! Yay! Hope you're all having a good week! :-)

What a nice friend to lend you his guitar. And it sounds like you're a natural! Lovely new earrings. Enjoy your long weekend!

It does sound like you are a natural! I must admit, Raspberry Beret is probably better than Mull of Kintyre which drove Mr A loopy!!!!

Glad you are getting on alright with it, nice to see you've posted something up, noticed you have not been round for a bit. Probably learning how to play. Keep it up tho! Sounds like you are doing great! :-D

Have a great EBH weekend, will post up a sketch applicable before I go for my break! Best wishes :o)

have you tried a plectrum if yourfingers are getting that sore?

Actually Raspberry Beret is quite annoying, I have had it in my head all morning since I read this!!!! :-D

Gromit, you made me laugh out loud with that one! :-D What makes it probably even more annoying for Mr P is that I can only remember the 1st verse! Lol!

Driftwood, I've been strumming away with a plectrum but it's my left hand that's gone numb really, holding the strings down. I'm getting used to it now though. It's not too bad. :-)

Susan, Thanks! I will! ;-)

Louise, There are lots of duff notes and a few pauses here and there but I'm trying. It's Mr P I feel sorry for :-)

how ace is that! you have a guitar to try out on first! all that advice i thought of, and i didn't think of the most sensible one, which indeed you have done - borrow a guitar first! yay!!!! and you appear to be doing so well already too! good for you, that's fantastic!!! imagine once you've been to see the levellers and seth too, you'll be wanting to learn all those songs! that'll be fab too! have a great easter weekend!
p.s. - i bought you a christmas card the other day!!! i would explain, but that would give things away, so i can't, you'll just have to wait until christmas! hahaha!!!

Blimey nà! I remember that post recently about getting more organised but Christmas cards already?!!! I am most intrigued!!!!!! I'm going to be thinking about that now for the next 9 months!!!! Now I think I need to think of a song that will stick in your head too!!! ;-D Oh and I'm really grateful for the advice you gave me about buying a guitar. I will still be taking it with me when I go and buy one. :-)

Hi Lelsey, glad to see that you've found the most sensible solution, borrow one and you'll learn a lot about guitars before you spend good money. I glanced at your painting web site recently, you really have a very accurate eye for portraits. You should do more, but now you'll be playing the guitar all day. Mr P has my sympathy.
Don't wear your fingers out too much.
Have a Happy Easter :-)

What a great first tune to learn, it's very catchy and the first song I put on my new ipod!
I can remember those sore fingers! Good luck with it all and I hope you have a lovely Easter break!! Gx
